Both products target faded exterior plastic trim, but they are different chemistries for different fade levels. Every figure comes from the manufacturer pages or the retail listings observed on the stated date.
Wipe-applied ceramic with the strictest prep and cure conditions — the family for trim you want protected, not just darkened.
The pigmented family adds color back to the plastic itself — the documented pick when grey has set in completely.
How we compared
- Product family and stated mechanism, from each listing.
- Observed price and per-ounce arithmetic on the stated date.
- Preparation demands, as written by the makers.
- Not compared: how long either lasts on real trim. We have not applied either product.
| Check | CERAKOTE | Solution Finish |
|---|---|---|
| Family | Ceramic coating — cures into a bonded layer on the trim. | Pigmented restorer — adds color to the plastic itself. |
| Size / format | 10 pre-saturated wipes plus a pair of gloves. | 12 fl oz liquid bottle, silicone-free and VOC compliant per the listing. |
| Observed price | $16.88 (observed November 4, 2026). | $33.99, about $2.83 per fl oz (observed November 4, 2026). |
| Stated durability | The listing leads with a long-interval durability claim — read its conditions before trusting the number. | Polymer-based like-new finish; the listing does not lead with a wash-count promise. |
| Preparation demands | High: trim must be fully decontaminated; dressing residue defeats bonding. | High: cleaning first is equally critical for pigment to take. |

Fully grey trim with the color gone points to the pigmented family; trim you want protected long-term points to the coating family — and both demand a decontaminated surface first. We have not tested either on real trim; the makers’ prep sheets decide the outcome.
Common questions
Which family for lightly dull trim?
Neither, honestly — lightly dull trim is the dressing family’s job, and a dressing costs a fraction of either product. Coatings and pigments are for fade levels beyond what a surface refresh can fix. Match the family to the fade level in our trim guide first.
Can I use both products together?
No — pick by condition and stick to it. A pigmented restorer changes the plastic’s color base; a coating seals the surface. Applying a coating over pigment, or pigment over a cured coating, is not described by either maker and risks poor bonding.
Why did my last trim product wash off in weeks?
In almost every early-failure story the surface carried residue — old dressing oils or silicone. Both families here assume a fully cleaned, decontaminated trim. The prep step is unglamorous, and it is where the durability actually comes from.
Why you can check this comparison
Written by Kane Lee, who has kept up his own cars for seven years — background that picks the topics, never a substitute for testing. Every number above traces to the dated observation or the linked instruction sheet; where coverage or durability is not stated in writing, the table says so instead of guessing.
